20-year-old Ayush Shetty captured his first BWF World Tour title at the US Open 2025, defeating Canada’s Brian Yang 21-18, 21-13 in a commanding final performance.
The victory marks India’s first men’s singles title away from home since Lakshya Sen’s 2023 Canada Open triumph.
Ayush, currently ranked 34th in the world, battled through a formidable draw to secure the title, including a gritty semifinal win over World No. 6 Chou Tien Chen. The 6’5” Karnataka shuttler displayed resilience, bouncing back after a first-game loss to defeat the top seed from Chinese Taipei 21-23, 21-15, 21-14 in 67 minutes.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma stole hearts and headlines with a sensational run to the women’s singles final. Though she fell short against World No. 21 and top seed Beiwen Zhang, the spirited performance — ending in a 21-11, 16-21, 21-10 result — showcased her as a rising star. Tanvi, the youngest Indian to reach a BWF World Tour final, stunned the second seed Nguyen Thuy Linh in the opening round and defeated multiple seasoned opponents on her way to the final.
Their performances not only underline India’s depth in emerging talent but also hint at a promising future for Indian badminton on the global stage.
