In a significant move ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the Delhi Capitals have appointed star all-rounder Axar Patel as the captain of the men’s team.
Patel, who has been with the franchise since 2019, is set to lead the team into the new season, bringing his vast experience and impressive performance record to the fore.
The 31-year-old cricketer has been a cornerstone for the Capitals, known for his consistent performance and leadership qualities. With 967 runs and 62 wickets in 82 matches for the team, Patel has proven to be a versatile player and a fan favorite. His tenure as vice-captain over the past two seasons has earned him respect and admiration from teammates and fans alike.
Delhi Capitals Chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi expressed his confidence in Patel’s new role, stating, “We are delighted to appoint Axar as the Delhi Capitals captain. Patel takes over the captaincy with the backing of seasoned players like KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc, forming a robust leadership core for the Capitals. He will work closely with the support staff, including Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao, Mentor Kevin Pietersen, Head Coach Hemang Badani, Assistant Coach Matthew Mott, and Bowling Coach Munaf Patel.
The Capitals are set to kick off their IPL 2025 campaign on March 24, 2025, in Visakhapatnam against Lucknow, with fans eagerly anticipating how the newly appointed captain will steer the team in the upcoming season.
