The controversy surrounding Australia women’s vice-captain Ashleigh Gardner has intensified after a fresh media report claimed that the alleged affair linked to the breakdown of her marriage began during the Women’s ODI World Cup in India.
The latest development follows public allegations made by Gardner’s estranged wife, Monica Wright, who identified Australian cricketer Georgia Voll in a social media post. However, Gardner, Voll and Cricket Australia have not publicly responded to the allegations, and the claims remain unverified.
Report claims relationship began during World Cup
According to a report by the Daily Mail, citing an unnamed source, Gardner and Voll allegedly developed a relationship while Australia were competing in the Women’s ODI World Cup in India.
The report claimed Wright travelled to India during the tournament to support Gardner, unaware of the alleged relationship.
The source further alleged that Wright interacted with Voll during the trip and did not suspect any issue at the time.
Alleged admission after returning to Australia
The report claimed that after returning to Sydney, Gardner allegedly told Wright that she had been unfaithful. According to the unnamed source, Gardner disclosed Voll’s identity only after repeated questioning.
The publication also reported that Wright later attempted to contact Voll through a text message but did not receive a response.
Couple had reportedly planned to start a family
The report further alleged that the couple had been preparing to begin fertility treatment before their separation.
According to the unnamed source, the plans were cancelled following the alleged admission, leaving Wright emotionally distressed.
The report also claimed Gardner later moved out of their shared Sydney residence, leaving behind only their wedding rings.
Public allegations remain unanswered
The latest report comes a day after Wright shared a photograph of Georgia Voll on her Instagram Story, alleging that Voll was involved in the breakdown of her marriage.
As of now, Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Voll and Cricket Australia have not issued any public statement regarding the allegations despite media requests for comment.
With no official response from those involved, the allegations remain unverified, and the matter continues to attract significant attention within the cricket community.
