Anu Garg Becomes Odisha’s First Woman Chief Secretary

In a significant administrative development, the Government of Odisha has appointed senior IAS officer Anu Garg as the new Chief Secretary of the state.

The appointment comes as incumbent Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja is set to retire on December 31, 2025.

According to an official notification issued by the General Administration & Public Grievance Department on December 24, 2025, Anu Garg (RR-1991), currently serving as Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Planning and Convergence Department with additional charges of Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Water Resources Department and Secretary to Government, General Administration and Public Grievance Department, has been posted as Chief Secretary.

The reshuffle marks a smooth transition in the state’s top bureaucratic post. Garg, a 1991-batch IAS officer, has held several key positions in the Odisha administration, including as the first woman Development Commissioner of the state.

This appointment ensures continuity in governance as Odisha prepares for various developmental initiatives in the coming year. The change takes effect from January 1, 2026, following Ahuja’s retirement.
