In a significant operation against drug trafficking, Angul police, in coordination with a special squad, arrested two persons and recovered 28 grams of brown sugar along with Rs 26,00,315 in cash from a rented house in Hatishalpadar area on Monday.
Acting on specific intelligence, the joint team conducted a raid on the premises. During the search, authorities seized the narcotics and a large amount of cash suspected to be proceeds from illegal drug sales. The cash was counted using a currency counting machine in the presence of an executive magistrate to ensure transparency.
The two accused, identified as residents of Kumanda and Sakasingha villages under Angul Sadar police station limits, are alleged brown sugar peddlers. They are currently in custody and being interrogated to ascertain the source of the drugs, the distribution network, and possible links to larger syndicates.
Angul police have stepped up surveillance and raids on known and suspected drug traffickers in the district as part of their ongoing drive to curb the illegal narcotics trade.
The seizure has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
