A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Pipalpadar village under Laxmipur police limits, where an elderly man, Lalu Mandinga, died after allegedly being assaulted and then denied timely medical transfer due to ambulance unavailability.
According to reports, Lalu was suspected of stealing Rs 1,300 and was allegedly beaten. His elder son, Jetu Mandinga, filed a written complaint at Laxmipur police station, alleging that the assault led to his father’s critical condition. Locals found Lalu lying unconscious on the roadside and rushed him to Laxmipur Community Health Centre in an auto-rickshaw.
Doctors, observing his deteriorating condition, referred him to the district hospital. However, despite repeated calls from medical staff, no ambulance arrived—even hours later. Lalu succumbed to his injuries as night fell.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into both the assault and the alleged medical negligence. The incident has sparked outrage over emergency response failures in remote areas.
