An ambulance crashed into a stationary truck on National Highway 55 near Motanga in Dhenkanal, leaving one attendant dead and the driver critically injured.
The accident occurred close to Haladiabahal under the Motanga Police Station limits.
The ambulance was returning to Angul after dropping a patient in Bhubaneswar when it rammed into the rear of the truck parked by the roadside. The impact left the vehicle mangled, killing the attendant instantly. The deceased has been identified as Gunanidhi Jyotish from Banabasapur in Angul district.
The driver sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that the collision caused extensive damage to the ambulance, which was completely crushed in the front.
Motanga Police reached the spot and began an investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Authorities are examining whether negligence or poor visibility contributed to the accident. The incident highlights the risks posed by stationary vehicles on highways, especially during late-night or early-morning hours.
Local residents expressed concern over frequent accidents on NH-55 and urged stricter enforcement of traffic safety measures. Police assured that further investigation will determine responsibility and appropriate action.
