Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has responded to allegations by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav that he holds two voter ID (EPIC) numbers in different constituencies.
Sinha clarified that while his entire family had voter IDs from Bankipur, he applied in April 2024 to shift his voter registration to Lakhisarai constituency, submitting all necessary documents and voting only from there.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav linked the controversy to Uttar Pradesh’s election integrity, accusing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of “facilitating vote loot” during recent elections. Akhilesh cited incidents including officials allegedly delegating voting duties to others and a police officer pointing a gun at women voters in Mirapur during the 2024 by-elections.
“Did we not see a revolver being aimed at women? Was the Election Commission asleep?” Akhilesh questioned, highlighting alleged election malpractices.
In response, the Patna district magistrate has formally written to Deputy CM Sinha, requesting a detailed explanation regarding the dual voter registrations. Sinha has been asked to respond by August 14.
The row intensifies scrutiny of electoral processes in both Bihar and Uttar Pradesh ahead of upcoming polls.
