An Air India flight bound for Indore was forced to make an emergency return to Delhi shortly after takeoff on Sunday morning. The decision was made after the cockpit crew received a fire warning alert for the aircraft’s right engine.
Flight AI2913, which departed from Delhi, was immediately turned around by the crew in accordance with safety protocols. The pilots quickly shut down the affected engine and landed the plane safely back at the Delhi airport.
An Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that the aircraft has been grounded for a thorough inspection. Passengers were moved to a different aircraft to continue their journey to Indore. The airline also confirmed that the air safety regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has been notified of the incident.
The airline apologized for the inconvenience and emphasized that the safety of its passengers and crew is its highest priority. This event follows a similar incident a month ago when an Air India Express flight had to return to Calicut due to a technical fault.
