In a major breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police have arrested Siba Pradhan, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of AIIMS Bhubaneswar employee Sudhanshu Khuntia, who was shot dead on October 13 in the Sarkantra area of the city. The crime reportedly stemmed from a long-standing property dispute.
According to police sources, Pradhan was apprehended after a detailed operation carried out in coordination with the Khandagiri Police Station. A firearm was also recovered from his possession.
Earlier, four other suspects had been taken into custody, but the prime accused managed to evade arrest for several weeks, causing deep anxiety and fear among the victim’s family.
Victim’s Family Sought Justice and Protection
Family members of the deceased lab assistant had alleged that the accused and his associates issued repeated life threats, leaving them in constant fear. Seeking justice, the family approached the Police Commissioner, demanding urgent protection and swift action in the case.
Police have assured that strict legal action will be taken against everyone involved and are now investigating whether additional accomplices played a role in the murder.

Sudhanshu Khuntia, who worked as a lab assistant at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, was shot dead near Ransinghpur under Khandagiri Police Limits while commuting to work at around 8 am on October 13. The incident shocked the AIIMS Bhubaneswar community and led to widespread calls for enhanced safety measures for employees.
The Commissionerate Police stated that the investigation is ongoing and further arrests may follow based on the evidence recovered.
