Ahmed Shehzad Slams Shadab Khan Over ‘India World Cup’ Remark After T20 World Cup 2026 Loss

Former Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad has strongly criticised Shadab Khan following the all-rounder’s controversial remarks after Pakistan’s defeat to India national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

The controversy began after Shadab responded to criticism from former Pakistan cricketers during a post-match press conference. He stated that while past legends had failed to defeat India in World Cups, his side had managed to do so in 2021. The comment triggered widespread reaction within the cricketing community.

Background: Criticism After India Defeat

Pakistan suffered a 61-run loss to India earlier in the tournament. Several former players, including Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Yousuf, publicly questioned team selections and performances. Some called for changes in the playing XI, including benching senior players.

Despite the criticism, Shadab delivered a strong performance in the next match against Namibia, scoring an unbeaten 35 and claiming three wickets, helping Pakistan advance to the Super 8 stage.

Shehzad Alleges Favouritism

Speaking during a live debate, Shehzad accused Shadab of benefiting from preferential treatment. He questioned the all-rounder’s selection despite inconsistent domestic performances and alleged unequal standards in comparison to other players.

Shehzad also said that comparing the current team with players from the 1990s was inappropriate, urging Shadab to show respect to former cricketers who made significant contributions to Pakistan cricket.

Mohammad Amir Joins the Criticism

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir echoed similar views. Amir stated that players on tour should focus on performance rather than responding to criticism.

He emphasised that scrutiny is a part of international cricket and suggested that the best response to critics is consistent performance on the field.

Pakistan’s Super 8 Campaign

Pakistan, led by Salman Ali Agha, progressed to the Super 8 stage after defeating Namibia. The team is placed in Group 2 alongside:

  • New Zealand national cricket team

  • England cricket team

  • Sri Lanka national cricket team

Pakistan will begin their Super 8 campaign against New Zealand on February 21 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

As the tournament progresses, attention remains on team performance amid growing off-field debate.
