A major employment fraud has surfaced in Odisha’s Khordha district, as police uncover a scam involving recruitment for the Agniveer program in the Indian Navy.
Three Navy personnel, including one former officer and two currently serving at INS Chilka and INS Kesari, have been arrested.
According to Khordha SP Sagarika Nath, the accused extorted large sums of money from job seekers by promising assistance with police verification, physical examinations, and job placements. The investigation has revealed transaction proofs and connections to at least twelve fraudulent bank accounts, now frozen by the authorities.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused targeted aspirants who appeared for the Navy examinations held in November 2024. The police are working to ascertain the involvement of additional suspects in the scam.
