The Odisha government has unveiled an innovative project, NAVINAUT, aimed at enhancing accessibility for persons with disabilities.
The initiative, launched on May 23, 2025, underscores the state’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society.
NAVINAUT, implemented under the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department, integrates advanced technology like LIDAR mapping to assess and improve infrastructure accessibility. Officials anticipate that this project will significantly enhance mobility and independence for individuals with disabilities across urban and rural areas.
Speaking at the launch event, senior government representatives highlighted the importance of empowering differently-abled citizens. They emphasised that NAVINAUT aligns with national policies promoting universal access and equal opportunities.
Community leaders and advocacy groups have expressed optimism about the project’s impact. Many believe that NAVINAUT will not only improve daily accessibility but also set a precedent for other states to adopt similar initiatives.
