Renowned singer Adnan Sami, who became an Indian citizen in 2016, recently engaged in a heated exchange with Pakistan’s former minister, Fawad Ahmed Hussain Chaudhry.
This social media altercation took place after India ordered Pakistani nationals to leave the country following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Fawad questioned Adnan’s decision to adopt Indian citizenship and mocked his physical transformation, calling him a “deflated balloon.” Adnan retaliated sharply, criticising Fawad’s lack of knowledge about his roots and governance credentials. Adnan highlighted his lineage from Peshawar and defended his stance against what he deemed “misinformation.”
This clash comes in the context of rising tensions between India and Pakistan after the terror attack, which left 26 people dead. The Indian government has responded with measures such as suspending visa services for Pakistani nationals and scaling back diplomatic relations.
Adnan Sami’s journey from his Pakistani origins to Indian citizenship continues to be a topic of public and political debate, reflecting broader narratives of cross-border relations and individual identity.
