Actor and filmmaker Aamir Khan recently held a special screening of his much-anticipated sports drama Sitaare Zameen Par for President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The event marked a symbolic celebration of inclusive storytelling and neurodivergent representation in mainstream cinema.
The film, regarded as a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, centres on a basketball coach mentoring a team of neurodivergent players. Inspired by the Spanish film Campeones, it features a fresh ensemble cast including Genelia Deshmukh and several debutants.
The President’s official X handle posted a photo with Khan, stating, “Acclaimed filmmaker and actor Shri Aamir Khan called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” underlining the significance of art as a vehicle for social engagement.
Directed by R.S. Prasanna and co-produced by Khan, Aparna Purohit, B. Shrinivas Rao, and Ravi Bhagchandka, the film also explores gender perspectives, portraying its female characters with nuance and ambition.
Released on June 20, Sitaare Zameen Par is not only a cinematic sequel in spirit but a progressive step forward in fostering conversations around inclusion, both on and off screen.
