To captivate collectors and history enthusiasts alike, the illustrious Golconda Blue diamond is heading to auction.
A masterpiece of vivid blue brilliance, this 23.24-carat gemstone boasts a regal lineage, having once been treasured by the Maharajas of Indore and Baroda.
Christie’s ‘Magnificent Jewels’ event in Geneva will host the auction on May 14, 2025, at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues. The diamond, currently set in a contemporary ring designed by the Parisian jeweler JAR, is expected to garner between $35 million and $50 million (approximately Rs 300 crore to Rs 430 crore).
Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International Head of Jewellery, described The Golconda Blue as one of the rarest blue diamonds in the world, lauding its royal heritage, extraordinary color, and exceptional size.
The Golconda mines of India, famed for producing some of history’s most legendary gems like the Koh-i-Noor and the Hope Diamond, are the origins of this dazzling stone. Its storied journey includes being part of grand jewelry pieces and adorning Indian royalty before ultimately entering private hands.
This upcoming auction is anticipated to be a pivotal moment in the gemstone’s enduring legacy, offering a rare opportunity for collectors to own a piece of Indian history.
