Under the chairmanship of Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee took several landmark decisions aimed at enhancing temple infrastructure, preserving traditions, and improving the overall experience for devotees.
New Gold Ornament Set for Suna Besha
The temple administration has decided to craft a brand-new set of gold ornaments for the iconic Suna Besha (golden attire) of Lord Jagannath and His divine siblings. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) will fund the project through its internal resources. Chief Administrator Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee stated that devotees wishing to contribute toward the initiative may do so by coordinating directly with the temple administration.
Additionally, the committee reviewed video recordings of ritual proceedings conducted between the Snana Yatra and Niladri Bije. Discrepancies and procedural errors were discussed to formulate corrective measures and ensure flawless execution during upcoming Rath Yatras.
Infrastructure Improvements & Sevayat Gurukul
- Gurukul Foundation: The Bhoomi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for the proposed Sevayat Gurukul will take place in November. Executed through OBCC, the facility will feature a modern sports complex, auditorium, classrooms, and a dedicated shrine.
- Urban Development Projects: OBCC has been directed to expedite work on the Shree Jagannath Pramod Udyan (garden) and the revival of the historic Raghunandan Library.
- Jagannath Bhumi Act: A dedicated assistance cell will open at the temple administration office to inform the public transparently regarding the Shree Jagannath Bhumi Management Act, 2026.
- Cultural Protection Sub-Committee: A high-level sub-committee headed by the Gajapati Maharaja will visit New Delhi to consult with the Union Government on strict legal measures against individuals or entities misrepresenting Lord Jagannath’s culture and heritage.
- Other Key Discussions: Topics included establishing the wheels of the three chariots at Rashtrapati Bhavan, founding a Veda University at Harachandi Sahi, safeguarding temple land assets in Jatni, and implementing the Shree Mandir Heritage Illumination project.
Gundicha Temple Reopening & Devotee Welfare
The Shree Gundicha Temple will officially reopen to devotees on September 30. Entry will feature a nominal Rs 10 fee, though access will be completely free for the first three days. Senior citizens above 80 years, children, and persons with disabilities (Divyangs) are fully exempt from entry charges.
To streamline crowds within the Natamandap, a queue management model developed by IIT Bhubaneswar will be field-tested before full implementation.
Special Access and Consultation with Shankaracharya
- Dedicated Slots at North Gate: Special viewing facilities and daily slot booking systems will be introduced at the Northern Gate for senior citizens, Divyangs, and local Puri residents. The system will be activated following operational readiness checks by the District Collector and Superintendent of Police.
- Spiritual Guidance: Committee members will meet Jagadguru Shankaracharya to seek spiritual guidance on maintaining ritual discipline, with his recommendations to be implemented as needed.
