Indian veteran athlete Manpreet Kaur clinched the bronze medal in the women’s shot‑put final at the Asian Games 2026, recording a throw of 17.17 m at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
Manpreet achieved her best mark on the fourth attempt, finishing behind China’s Song Jiayuan (Gold) and Zhang Linru (Silver). Fellow Indian Krishna Jayasankar Menon impressed with a fifth‑place finish at 16.57 m.
A seasoned campaigner, Manpreet previously won bronze at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships and narrowly missed a medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, finishing fourth with 17.49 m. She also represented India at the 2016 Olympics and made a strong comeback after a four‑year ban, breaking the national record with an 18.06 m throw in 2022.
Her consistent domestic form, including a 17.75 m win at the National Inter‑State Athletics Championships, reaffirmed her qualification and resilience. With this podium finish, Manpreet becomes India’s third woman ever to win an Asian Games shot‑put medal, following Barbara Webster (1951) and Kiran Baliyan (2022).
