Continuous heavy rainfall has severely disrupted train operations in Odisha’s Rayagada district. A major landslide triggered by unrelenting downpours caused earth and massive boulders to collapse onto the railway tracks near Tunnel No. 29, located between Keutguda and Sikarapai railway stations.
As a result, rail traffic along the crucial Koraput-Rayagada (K-R) line has come to a complete standstill.
The sudden track blockage has left several long-distance and passenger trains stranded along the route. The Intercity Express remains halted at Sikarapai station, while the Hirakhand Express has been stuck at Keutguda station, causing significant inconvenience to passengers.
Upon receiving information, East Coast Railway (ECOR) officials and restoration crews rushed to the site with heavy machinery to clear the debris and mud off the tracks. Operations are currently underway on a war footing to clear the route and restore normal train movement at the earliest.
This marks the second consecutive day of rain-induced disruptions in the region, with multiple minor landslides reported along the railway line yesterday as well. Given the ongoing heavy rains and the tricky terrain of the mountainous passage, railway authorities are keeping a continuous, sharp vigil on sensitive zones, tunnels, and vulnerable hillsides along the line to prevent further mishaps.
