Chennai: Tamil Nadu government has decided to open schools and colleges for all students from classes 1 to 12 in the state from February 1 by following Covid protocols. However, the ban on playschools and nursery schools will continue.
The state education department has allowed schools and colleges to conduct physical classes and the state has also decided to lift the night curfew.
As part of easing restrictions further, the state government has decided to discontinue Sunday lockdown, which was imposed amid a surge in Covid cases.
All exhibitions, cultural, political events will not be permitted in the state. Restaurants, malls, theatres, gyms will be allowed to operate with 50 per cent occupancy.
The number of guests allowed at weddings has been fixed at 100. According to new guidelines, only 50 people will be allowed to attend funerals.
All places of worship will be allowed to remain open on all days. The new rules were decided after Chief Minister MK Stalin held a meeting with the expert committee to review the restrictions imposed in the state.
