The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan began in Odisha on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday with a mega blood donation camp in Bhubaneswar, where 8,810 units of blood were collected, according to the organisers.
The camp was organised by the Odisha BJP Yuva Morcha at the IDCO Exhibition Ground in Unit-III as part of the birthday-linked service campaign.
The Odisha BJP Yuva Morcha claimed that the collection set a world record for blood collected in a single camp organised by one organisation in one day.
CM Majhi Attends Mega Blood Donation Camp
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the blood donation camp and highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation.
Majhi said donating blood and helping save a life reflects strong humanitarian values. He also stressed that despite advances in science, blood has no substitute and cannot be manufactured.
The Chief Minister said the state government was committed to ensuring that no life is lost prematurely because of a shortage of blood.
Rs 50.54 Crore Allocated For Blood Security
Majhi also highlighted the state government’s Atal Raktadan Abhiyan, which has received an allocation of Rs 50.54 crore in the 2026-27 Odisha Budget.
Under the initiative, blood banks are being established at new medical colleges while existing facilities are being modernised, according to the Chief Minister.
Seva Sankalp Abhiyan To Run For A Month
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is scheduled to continue for a month, with activities focused on social service and public participation.
The campaign was launched alongside the blood donation programme, with Majhi urging young people to dedicate time to social service and nation-building.
The mega blood donation camp had initially set a target of collecting more than 6,500 units, according to reports on the launch programme.
The reported collection of 8,810 units therefore exceeded that initial target.
PM Modi’s Birthday Linked To Service Campaign
The Odisha government and BJP have linked the month-long campaign to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday on September 17.
Majhi also participated in other birthday-linked activities, including planting an Ashoka sapling at Lok Seva Bhawan, while the wider campaign focuses on service-oriented programmes.
The blood donation drive placed healthcare and blood availability at the centre of the opening-day activities in Bhubaneswar.
