Odisha rain alert: Low-pressure area likely by Sept 11; heavy rain forecast across several districts

Odisha is likely to see another spell of heavy rainfall as an active cyclonic circulation over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas is expected to lead to the formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts by September 11, the Meteorological Department has forecast.

The system is likely to influence weather conditions across the state, with heavy rainfall expected in parts of north and south Odisha through September 12.

On Wednesday, September 9, Baleshwar, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive heavy rainfall. Scattered rain is also expected at several places across north and coastal Odisha.

Odisha rain forecast for September 10

Rainfall activity is expected to intensify on Thursday, September 10.

Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, for which an Orange Warning has been issued.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri.

Residents in the warned districts are advised to remain alert as localised heavy rain could affect road conditions, visibility and normal activities.

Heavy rain forecast for south Odisha on September 11

On Friday, September 11, the focus of intense rainfall is expected to shift towards south Odisha.

Koraput is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, while heavy rain is forecast at several locations across south Odisha.

The expected formation of the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal could further influence rainfall activity during this period.

Rain likely to continue on September 12

Rainfall activity is expected to continue into Saturday, September 12.

Several places in south Odisha, including Koraput and Malkangiri, may receive rain. Some parts of western Odisha are also likely to experience rainfall.

With the weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal, the rainfall situation will need to be closely monitored over the coming days, particularly across districts under heavy-rain warnings.
