A long‑standing family dispute escalated into a violent clash at Master Canteen Chhak near the Railway Station late Monday night, leading to two arrests and the registration of counter cases by Capital Police.
According to police, the feud stemmed from differences between Panchu Nahak and his wife Sujata Nahak, who had been living separately for two years. On September 6, Panchu allegedly assaulted Sujata and snatched her mobile phone, prompting her to lodge Case No. 711.
In retaliation, Sujata’s relatives, including Sumant Nayak and his younger brother Suresh, confronted Panchu near Master Canteen around 11 pm on September 7. The altercation turned violent when Sumant and his associates allegedly attacked Panchu with a steel bangle, causing head injuries. Panchu reportedly retaliated by attempting to choke one of them.
PCR police rushed to the spot and rescued the parties, but despite police presence, both sides continued to attack each other. Eventually, officers brought them under control and registered Case No. 710 and Case No. 711 as counter cases.
Police confirmed the arrest of Sumant Nayak and Panchu Nahak, who were produced in court today. Other accused remain absconding, and efforts are underway to trace them.
The arrested include:
- Aditya Halder (20), a KIIT University student from West Bengal, in Case No. 710.
- Panchu Nahak (45), an auto driver from Nayagarh, in Case No. 711.
