In a swift crackdown on campus violence and urban crime, Laxmi Jor Police in Balangir have arrested two notorious habitual offenders for assaulting students and vandalising property inside the Rajendra University campus.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sumit Sahu alias Chintu and Ashok Swain alias Situ. Both accused were forwarded to court on Saturday after police invoked relevant criminal charges, including Section 111 (organised crime) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Incident and Police Action
The arrest follows a recent violent disruption on the campus of Rajendra University, where the duo forcefully entered the premises, assaulted two students, and vandalised their vehicles before fleeing the scene. The incident sparked widespread outrage and insecurity among students, prompting the police to launch an immediate investigation.
Under the supervision of Sadar SDPO Saroj Upadhyay, a team from Laxmi Jor Police Station tracked down the fugitives and successfully apprehended them.
