A building collapse in southwest Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sunday afternoon has left several people feared trapped under debris.
The incident occurred around 1:30 pm, prompting immediate rescue operations.
Officials confirmed that one person has been rescued, while efforts continue to locate others. Eyewitnesses reported that the building, which served as a paying guest accommodation, may have housed up to 50 students at the time of the collapse.
Visuals from the site showed large crowds gathered as locals and rescuers worked together to lift debris and search for survivors. Disturbing footage revealed a person wedged under a concrete slab as rescue teams struggled to free them.
The Satya Niketan area, known for its proximity to several colleges, has a high student population, raising concerns about the safety of accommodations in the locality. Rescue teams remain on-site, deploying equipment to clear rubble and prevent further danger.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse while ensuring that residents in nearby structures are safe.
