Security forces killed a terrorist during a joint operation in Ashdar Gali forest, Budgam district, on Friday.
The encounter followed specific intelligence inputs about the movement of suspected militants from Pakherpora in Pulwama towards Yousmarg.
The operation was launched by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF. According to the Srinagar‑based Chinar Corps, troops observed suspicious movement during the search and challenged the suspects. The terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire in which one terrorist was neutralised. An AK rifle was recovered from the site.
Officials said another terrorist is believed to be hiding in the area, and the search operation remains underway. The identity of the slain militant has not yet been confirmed.
This encounter comes after several months of relative calm in militant activity across the Kashmir Valley, marking a significant development in ongoing counter‑terror operations.
