The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to foster inclusivity and flexible learning options for students in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including those with disabilities.

These groundbreaking initiatives focus on credit-based learning, academic mobility, and tailored accommodations to ensure every student, regardless of their challenges, has equal access to education.

The CBCS model emphasizes a student-centric approach, allowing individuals to select core, elective, and skill-based courses that suit their interests. Meanwhile, the ABC system enables seamless credit transfer across multiple institutions, empowering students to pursue diverse qualifications through personalized learning pathways. To support students with disabilities, the UGC has mandated accessible assessments and alternative course structures, including self-study, e-learning, and hands-on training.

These initiatives reflect UGC’s commitment to making education flexible, accessible, and inclusive for all, ensuring that no student is left behind in their academic journey.
