The Odisha Government has extended the paddy registration period by seven days, providing relief to farmers who were unable to complete the process on time.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced the decision on Sunday, citing connectivity issues and technical delays in several districts.
The registration drive, which was scheduled to end tomorrow, will now continue for an additional week. Officials said the extension aims to ensure that every eligible farmer is covered under the procurement system.
So far, more than 17 lakh farmers have registered for the current season, compared to 19.67 lakh last year. The Minister added that discussions have been held with technical teams to resolve network problems in affected areas and streamline the process.
The move is expected to benefit thousands of cultivators ahead of the upcoming procurement cycle, ensuring smoother participation and timely payments.
