The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, has announced a significant change in examination rules for ex-regular Plus Two candidates, effective from 2027.

Under the new provision, ex-regular students will also be required to appear for internal examinations, a move aimed at strengthening evaluation standards.

The internal exam will carry 20 marks, and once a candidate appears, the marks will remain valid for three years. If a student fails to clear the main examination within this period, they will have to reappear for the internal exam.

CHSE Controller of Examinations Dr Prasanta Kumar Parida explained that the rule also applies to candidates missing the practical examination. Marks secured in practicals will similarly remain valid for three years, after which students must retake the exam if they have not cleared the main papers.

Additionally, students unable to attend the internal exam at the scheduled time due to valid reasons will be allowed to take it during the theory examination. The decision was approved at a meeting of the CHSE Syllabus Committee and will be implemented from the 2027 academic session.

This reform is expected to bring greater accountability and uniformity in the evaluation process for ex-regular students, ensuring parity with regular candidates.
