A low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining regions is likely to move nearly northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, adjoining north Odisha and Jharkhand during the next 24 hours, according to the latest weather update issued at 5:30 am IST on August 24, 2026.
The weather system was earlier located over north coastal Odisha and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal. It has now shifted over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha, Jharkhand and the northwest Bay of Bengal.
Low-pressure system to move northwest
According to the update, the system is expected to move nearly northwestwards during the next 24 hours, crossing parts of Gangetic West Bengal, adjoining north Odisha and Jharkhand.
The movement of the system is expected to influence weather conditions across the region, while coastal areas may continue to experience unsettled conditions.
Winds up to 60 kmph likely over Bay of Bengal
Squally weather is likely over the northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal as well as along and off the coasts of West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh.
Wind speeds are expected to reach 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, with these conditions likely to prevail until the night of August 24.
Sea to remain rough to very rough
The weather system is also expected to keep sea conditions rough to very rough over the northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal.
Rough to very rough seas are also likely along and off the coasts of West Bengal, adjoining Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh through August 24.
