In a significant move to establish a strong, sustainable, and self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem in Odisha, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling on Tuesday visited the CG Semi Semiconductor Facility Centre in Sanand, Gujarat.
The Minister closely examined the facility’s infrastructure, operational processes, and best practices. He held detailed discussions with CG Semi’s leadership and technical experts on critical enablers of the semiconductor industry — ancillary industries, human resource development, supply-chain resilience, skill upgradation, and effective industry-government coordination.
“The rich experience and learnings from the rapidly evolving semiconductor ecosystem in Sanand will be adapted to Odisha’s context,” the Minister said. “Our goal is to create a stable and competitive semiconductor ecosystem that positions Odisha as a major hub in India’s emerging chip industry.”
Dr. Mahaling also visited Kaynes Silicon Semiconductor, where he observed the complete packaging value chain — from testing and dicing to laser marking, plating, and final chip packaging. Later, he interacted with teams at Micron Semiconductor and discussed the broader semiconductor ecosystem and opportunities for collaboration.

Emphasising the state’s commitment, the Minister noted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Odisha is determined to develop high-technology and future-ready industries. “This initiative will open new avenues for investment, employment and skill development, transforming Odisha into a powerful and competitive semiconductor hub,” he added.
The visit was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Electronics & IT Department, Visal Kumar Dev; OPTCL Chairman Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma; OKAC CEO Dr. Pradeep Kumar Rout; Joint Secretary Kaustuv Pani and other senior officials.
With this focused outreach, Odisha has taken a decisive step toward joining the ranks of India’s key semiconductor destinations.
