A dramatic scene unfolded near AIIMS Hospital on Tuesday when a robber fell off his bike during a chain‑snatching attempt and was caught by locals.
According to reports, the accused tried to snatch a chain from a woman accompanying a patient. As she resisted and pulled him, the robber lost balance and fell. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot, overpowered the youth, and thrashed him before handing him over to police.
A gun was recovered from the accused during the search. Police said he is believed to be a resident of Ganjam district. Another person riding the bike managed to escape.
Khandagiri Police reached the scene and have begun investigating the incident.
