Panic gripped commuters at Raurkela Railway Station on Monday morning after a newly constructed shed collapsed near the station’s main entrance.
The incident occurred around 9 am, damaging a car and a tempo parked beneath the structure. Fortunately, no passengers were reported injured, though several people ran to safety as the shed came crashing down.
The shed, reportedly built at a cost of Rs 1 crore, had been completed only a few months ago. It was intended to provide shelter to passengers and vehicles from sun and rain.
The sudden collapse has raised serious questions about the quality of construction. Locals claimed that concerns had earlier been voiced regarding the durability of the shed.
Railway officials are expected to investigate the incident, while commuters have demanded accountability and stricter monitoring of public infrastructure projects.
