The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Warning for Odisha, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall across several districts over the next 24 hours.
The alert comes as multiple weather systems continue to influence the state’s monsoon activity.
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation has developed over North Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, currently positioned over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal region at around 0.9 km above mean sea level. The system is likely to intensify into a low‑pressure area within the next 24 hours.
Another upper‑air cyclonic circulation remains active over South Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, extending between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level. These combined systems are responsible for the ongoing heavy rainfall activity across Odisha.
The IMD has advised residents to stay alert and avoid low‑lying areas, while local administrations have been asked to remain prepared for possible waterlogging and flash floods.
