The selection of Odisha’s next Director General of Police (DGP) will take centre stage on August 7, when the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) convenes a high-level meeting under its chairmanship.
The meeting is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, the incumbent DGP, and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), along with other members.
The Government of Odisha (GoO) has already forwarded a panel of 11 senior IPS officers to the UPSC for consideration. Following deliberations, the UPSC will shortlist and recommend a panel of three officers.
Based on these recommendations, the GoO will make the final decision and appoint one officer as the next DGP of the State. The process underscores the balance between state-level inputs and UPSC oversight, ensuring transparency and merit in the appointment of Odisha’s top police officer.
