In a significant boost to Odisha’s clean energy ambitions, senior representatives from the Adani Group today presented an ambitious investment plan worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore to Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at Kharavel Bhawan.

The presentation underlined the group’s strong interest in strengthening Odisha’s renewable and low-emission power ecosystem. Key proposals include two 3,000 MW nuclear power plants, 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical (USC) thermal power plants, and pumped storage projects (PSPs) designed to deliver reliable baseload power with lower emissions.

Adani is already developing a 1.80 GW pumped storage project in Nayagarh district, signalling early commitment on the ground. The overall initiative is expected to generate more than 22,000 direct and indirect jobs while substantially enhancing the state’s power generation capacity.

The proposed investments align with India’s Net Zero 2070 pathway and are facilitated by enabling legislation such as the SHANTI Act 2025.

Officials present at the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Vishal Kumar Dev, CMD of OPTCL Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, MD of GRIDCO Dr Satyapriya Rath, along with senior officers from the Energy Department, OPGC, OHPC, and GRIDCO.

The engagement marks a promising step toward positioning Odisha as a major hub for clean and reliable energy in eastern India. Further discussions on project timelines, land, and policy support are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
