The Hirakud Dam authorities have closed six sluice gates while keeping two open — one on each side — as the water level continues to decline.
According to the latest 24‑hourly reservoir update, the water level stood at 611.33 feet, showing a downward trend. The live storage in the reservoir is 1.482 million acre‑feet, which accounts for 38% of its total capacity. The average inflow was recorded at 1,14,157 cusecs, while the average outflow stood at 1,69,325 cusecs.
Significant discharge continues through the spillway and power channel. Combined power generation from the Burla and Chiplima Power Houses reached 209.042 MW during the day.
Officials noted that the current reservoir level is 2.71 feet lower than the level recorded on the same day last year, indicating a steady decline in water storage.
