The International Cricket Council (ICC) has sanctioned India’s left‑arm pacer Gurnoor Brar following an on‑field incident during the opening ODI against England.
Brar was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct after throwing the ball towards England batter Ben Duckett in the eighth over of England’s innings. The act was deemed inappropriate and potentially dangerous.
The charge was brought forward by on‑field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, along with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Russell Warren. Match referee Richie Richardson proposed the sanction, which Brar accepted, avoiding a formal hearing.
As a result, Brar received an official warning and one demerit point.
Despite the controversy, Brar contributed to India’s six‑wicket victory, taking 2 wickets for 61 runs in nine overs as India restricted England to 258. India chased down the target comfortably to take a 1‑0 lead in the three‑match ODI series.
The ICC’s action serves as a reminder that aggressive behaviour on the field can quickly attract disciplinary consequences under the governing body’s code.
