A tragic incident unfolded near Soyabali forest road under Barabil Range, Guali Section, when a wild elephant attacked and killed a bike rider early Tuesday morning.
The victim, identified as Chintamani Patra (55) of Soyabali village under Serenda Gram Panchayat, was riding his TVS Luna to a plant at Kashia around 7:15 AM when the elephant suddenly emerged from the forest. Witnesses said the animal first dragged him and then trampled him fatally.
Local youth Rautu Munda, who was jogging nearby, attempted to rescue Patra but was chased by the elephant and narrowly escaped. Later, passers‑by rushed the injured man to Barabil hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Forest officials and police reached the spot and have begun an investigation.
