A minor girl was kidnapped, raped, and attacked by her relative in Kendujhar district on Friday.
The incident occurred in Raigoda under Sadar police limits in Banspal block.
The accused, a truck driver, abducted the girl in his vehicle and took her to a secluded spot. He raped her and then attempted to kill her by striking her with a stone. Her cries for help alerted passersby, who rushed to the scene and rescued her in critical condition.
Locals overpowered the accused, thrashed him, and handed him over to the police. The injured girl was shifted to a hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Police from the Shuakati outpost detained the accused and launched an investigation. Officials confirmed that the case involves kidnapping, sexual assault, and attempted murder.
The incident triggered tension in the area as locals blocked the Raigoda–Rangadihi road in protest. Residents demanded strict action against the accused and better protection for minors.
