OBC reservation in Odisha

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised sharp questions against the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government, asking why no reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) has been implemented in the past 24 years of its governance.

This comes amidst ongoing protests by the BJD in the Odisha Assembly, demanding proportional reservation in the education sector.

BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathy criticized the BJD for disrupting Assembly proceedings while failing to address the issue during its long tenure. He questioned why the BJD did not provide OBC reservation in education, panchayat elections, or municipal elections during its 24 years in power, despite no opposition to such measures.

Tripathy further stated that the current government under Chief Minister Mohan Majhi is committed to taking timely and responsible steps for the welfare of all communities. He highlighted the inclusive policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which ensure appropriate reservation for underprivileged students and communities across the country.

The BJP MLA urged the BJD to first explain its inaction over the years before blaming the current government. He emphasized that the BJP-led government in Odisha is focused on people-centric and welfare-oriented measures, ensuring development for all.
