A 28-year-old newlywed woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Delhi’s Palika Kunj on Saturday, prompting allegations of dowry harassment, domestic abuse and financial pressure from her husband and in-laws.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that all claims made by the woman’s family are being verified. The exact cause of death will be determined after the postmortem examination and further investigation.

Woman Found Outside Government Housing Complex

According to police, the woman was discovered in critical condition outside the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) residential quarters in Palika Kunj. She was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where doctors declared her dead.

Investigators believe she may have fallen from the third floor of one of the residential buildings. However, officials have not yet determined how she reached the complex or what events led to her death.

CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and local residents are being questioned as part of the investigation.

Family Questions How She Reached the Location

The woman had married a 30-year-old sales executive on April 24, 2026, in what her relatives described as a love marriage.

According to her family, she left her mother’s home for work on Saturday. Around 6 p.m., she informed her mother over the phone that she was travelling to her husband’s residence in Pushp Vihar.

However, she was later found at Palika Kunj, nearly 10 kilometres away from her husband’s home, raising questions about how and why she reached the government housing complex.

Family Alleges Dowry Demands and Domestic Abuse

The woman’s relatives have alleged that she faced repeated harassment after marriage over dowry demands.

According to her uncle, the husband and his family allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh and a car despite being aware of her family’s financial situation.

The family also alleged that she was subjected to physical and mental abuse and believes either she was killed or was driven to take the extreme step because of continued harassment.

Police have not confirmed these allegations and said they are being investigated.

Dispute Over Salary Also Alleged

Family members said the woman had been the primary financial support for her mother since her father’s death five years ago.

They alleged that while her husband initially opposed her working, he later insisted that she hand over her entire salary.

According to the family, the woman wanted to continue sending ₹5,000 every month to her mother, which reportedly led to frequent disagreements between the couple.

Her uncle claimed the couple had a major argument over the issue just a day before her death.

Brother Demands Action

The woman’s younger brother said he does not believe she died by suicide and has demanded legal action against her husband and in-laws.

Meanwhile, the husband declined to comment publicly.

Police said they are examining all available evidence, including forensic findings, CCTV footage and witness statements, before determining the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The investigation remains underway.
