Another migrant worker from Odisha died after suffering severe injuries in the Tamil Nadu ammonia gas leak, raising the death toll of Odia workers to 13.
The deceased, identified as Budhubari Nayak (25) from Andhari Sahi under Alori Gram Panchayat in Pallahara block of Anugola district, had been working at a private seafood processing and export unit in Kannigaipair village near Periyapalayam, Tiruvallur district. She was exposed to toxic ammonia fumes during the June 21 leak and succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Her body reached Bhubaneswar late Saturday and was handed over to her family in Pallahara by Assistant Labour Officer Michael Jujo and Khamar police around 1 am.
The leak occurred when around 120 migrant workers from Odisha, Assam, and Jharkhand were on duty. Many suffered breathing difficulties, dizziness, and eye irritation, while several collapsed inside the factory.
Authorities continue investigating the cause of the leak. The Odisha government has extended support to affected families and coordinated with Tamil Nadu officials for relief measures.
