The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) formed a fact-finding team after the murder of trader SK Hamid in Baleshwar’s Remuna area, raising concerns over law and order in the district.
Hamid was shot dead by bike-borne miscreants at Arad Bazar in broad daylight on Thursday. The incident shocked the trading community and prompted the BJD to act.
Under the direction of party president Naveen Patnaik, a seven-member delegation will visit Baleswar. The team will meet the victim’s family, local traders, and members of the Baleshwar Bazar Committee to understand the circumstances surrounding the crime.
The delegation includes Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, Goutambudha Das, Lekhashri Samantsinghar, Madhav Dhada, Swarup Kumar Das, Sukant Kumar Nayak, and Jiban Pradip Dash. Panigrahi will coordinate the visit.
The BJD stated that the team will urge police to conduct a fair and time-bound investigation, ensure immediate arrests, and take measures to curb rising crime. The party emphasised restoring public confidence by strengthening safety and security in Balasore.
The delegation will submit a detailed report with findings and recommendations to Naveen Patnaik after the on-ground assessment.
