In a breakthrough, the Cuttack Police successfully cracked a sextortion case that led to the tragic suicide of a victim.

The investigation, initiated on March 1, 2025, after the victim’s suicide note revealed threats and blackmail on WhatsApp, culminated in the arrest of the accused in Delhi.

The individual, identified as Djedje Raymond, also known as Chijioke John Okoye, is a Nigerian national and suspected ringleader of an international extortion racket.

The accused meticulously impersonated professionals on social media, luring victims to share private data under false pretences. Through cutting-edge technical analysis, the Cyber Cell of Cuttack Police uncovered his modus operandi, which involved creating fake profiles, developing relationships, and ultimately coercing victims with incriminating material.

With a dedicated team led by ACP Girija Chakrabarty, Inspector Rakesh Kumar Behera, and other officers, the police tracked the accused through advanced cyber forensics. The arrest on March 21, 2025, in collaboration with the Delhi Police, signifies a triumph in combating cybercrimes.

Items seized from the accused include five mobile phones, a laptop, eight international SIM cards, and a passport. Authorities stress the importance of online safety and urge the public to report suspicious activity. Victims of such crimes are encouraged to break the stigma and seek help by calling the 1930 helpline.

This case sheds light on the pervasive nature of online sextortion and emphasizes the dire need for awareness and vigilance in the digital era.
