In a significant step towards easing traffic congestion and strengthening urban infrastructure in the state capital, Odisha’s Minister for Public Works, Law and Excise, Prithiviraj Harichandan, today laid the foundation stones for two major road improvement projects in Unit-6.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Harichandan reiterated the state government’s strong commitment to building robust urban infrastructure and enhancing road connectivity across Bhubaneswar. He announced that for the financial year 2025-26, the government has approved a massive ₹7,826.15 crore for 37 road projects, underlining a focused push to make the capital congestion-free in the near future.

The two projects inaugurated today are:

  • Widening and strengthening of the road from the Governor’s House Petrol Pump to Ganganagar Chowk (0.000 km to 0.866 km) at an estimated cost of ₹5.96 crore.
  • Upgradation of the internal road from Capital Hospital to Banadurga Temple (0.000 km to 0.946 km) in Unit-6 at an estimated cost of ₹3.93 crore.

The Minister highlighted that these developments will significantly alleviate chronic traffic bottlenecks, especially around LIC Chowk to Ganganagar Chowk and the Capital Hospital area, ensuring smoother vehicular movement for daily commuters.

Lok Sabha MP Aparajita Sarangi, who graced the occasion, praised the proactive steps taken by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Mangal and Minister Harichandan. She emphasised the need for modern, durable road infrastructure to meet the growing demands of the expanding city and expressed confidence that local residents would greatly benefit from these projects.

The event was also attended by Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, Bhubaneswar Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena, Mayor Sulochana Das, and Corporator Pushpa Rout, senior social worker Jagannath Pradhan, and senior officials from the Works Department, including Chief Construction Engineer Er. Manoj Kumar Mahananda and Executive Engineer Er. Sachin Kumar Sahu.
