Parliament Budget Session to Resume Today

The Budget Session of Parliament will reconvene on Monday, with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha set to meet.

Key discussions will continue on the Union Budget for 2025 and the introduction of the new Income Tax Bill, approved by the Union Cabinet on Friday. The Bill aims to simplify direct tax laws without imposing new burdens, making it more accessible.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced plans for a new Direct Tax Code during her budget presentation on February 1, following a review of the Income Tax Act of 1961 in July 2024.

Last week, intense debates occurred in the Rajya Sabha, where External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar addressed the deportation of illegal Indian migrants from the United States, emphasizing the government’s focus on combating illegal migration while ensuring the humane treatment of deported individuals.

The Lok Sabha also faced disruptions due to opposition protests regarding the deportation issue, but discussions on the Union Budget and legislative proposals continued. On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the Motion of Thanks for the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, critiquing the Congress party.
