On World Happiness Day, the Government of India announced a significant milestone in its journey toward technological self-reliance.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) unveiled the results of the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge (IWBDC), an ambitious initiative under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat program to develop an indigenous web browser for Indian users.

In a ceremony held in New Delhi, Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw commended the participants for their innovative and creative contributions to building a secure and reliable web browser. He highlighted the importance of transforming India from a “service nation” to a “product nation,” emphasizing the need for self-reliance in both hardware and software solutions.

Zoho Corporation emerged as the winner of the challenge, receiving ₹1 crore in prize money. Team PING and Team Ajna were recognized as the first and second runners-up, with awards of ₹75 lakh and ₹50 lakh, respectively. A special mention was given to “Jio Vishwakarma” for their impressive multi-platform browser design.

The indigenous web browser, compatible with iOS, Android, and Windows, promises enhanced data security by keeping user data within Indian borders and complying with the Data Protection Act. It will also feature child-friendly browsing, parental controls, and support for all official Indian languages, marking a step forward in empowering India’s digital future.

This initiative underscores the Government’s broader vision to foster innovation and make India a global hub for competitive and scalable technologies.
