Authorities in Malkangiri rescued several children from a bus near the local police station on Monday after receiving information about suspected trafficking.

Childline officials acted on a call that reported minors being transported under the guise of summer courses and film shooting.

The rescue team intercepted a Sai Krishna bus and conducted checks. Officials confirmed that the children were travelling without proper documentation or parental consent. During questioning, the minors revealed they were being taken to Vijayawada.

Childline representatives coordinated with the district child protection unit to ensure immediate safety. The rescued children were shifted to a secure shelter and will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Officials said the children will later be reunited with their families after verification.

Police launched an inquiry to identify the agents behind the operation. Investigators suspect that traffickers are using new methods, disguising illegal transport as educational or entertainment opportunities. Complaints from nearby areas suggest similar attempts may be underway, prompting authorities to expand surveillance across transport routes.

The incident highlights growing concerns about child trafficking in border districts. Officials stressed that vigilance and community reporting remain critical in preventing exploitation.

District administration assured strict action against those responsible. Authorities emphasised that the rescued children will receive counselling and rehabilitation support.
