Odisha continues to experience a severe heatwave, with temperatures rising sharply across coastal and western regions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the prevailing conditions are expected to persist for at least the next five days.

Heatwave conditions have been officially reported in districts such as Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bolangir. In addition, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for 17 districts, including Ganjam, Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, and Sundargarh, among others, indicating severe heat and high humidity levels.

Jharsuguda Records Highest Temperature in India

Jharsuguda recorded a maximum temperature of 44.6°C, making it the hottest location in the country. Dhenkanal followed closely with 43.2°C.

The sustained rise in temperature has led to widespread discomfort, with residents facing extreme heat and oppressive humidity throughout the day and night.

IMD Forecast: Heatwave to Continue, Rain Likely in Some Regions

According to IMD officials, heatwave conditions are expected to persist, accompanied by warm nights in several districts. Regions such as Kandhamal and Bolangir may experience particularly humid conditions in the coming days.

However, some relief is anticipated in southern districts like Malkangiri and Koraput, where light rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching 30–40 km/h are likely over the next two days.
